SUMMARY OBSERVATIONS FROM LISTED ERRORS (FORMAL LETTER-WRITING)

1.All errors were extracted by English Language teachers  who gave tutorials and revised with students for the exams. They were instructed to do so for purposes of planning remedial studies in English for the following academic session.

2.For this  the names of students who committed these errors were submitted under each category. The school had realized that  a WAEC result with less than a credit result in English meant the student might have to repeat the same exam at GCE level or through a repeater exam the following year.

3. The number of errors declined from 44 in JSS1 to 26 in SS2/SS3 combined giving a class average of 13.What this implies is that the school’s remedial programs over the years must have been working as outlined in one of our write-ups on what schools must do to assist students pass WAEC’S ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXAMINATION. It could also mean that the school waged an effective war again the use of pidgin English by its students

4.A closer look at the errors  also revealed the effect  of the internet and hand-held phones on  the senior classes of ss2/3 and their willingness to use abbreviations derived from these sources even in a promotional examination! This contrasted glaringly with the junior classes in which had not even one instance of such use. You are therefore left to wonder if certain students usually decide to tempt fate knowingly in examination halls.

5.If these statistics are to be of any use to tutors and students the following need to be extracted and used for preparing students

a. Which errors came up in all groups?  What needs  to be done?  Which  of the write-ups provided by LBC-EDUPEDIA would be most useful for solutions?.

b. Which errors seemed peculiar and which individuals in each class need particular attention on them? Can library-use re-orientation, novel summarization and writing out findings from a compiled research be useful? What about playing of word games or encouragement in reading newspapers and magazines which LBC-EDUPEDIA has suggested in many of its write-ups.?

Do we want to present chunky materials too often? Definitely not. So please permit us to stop here for now.

Thank you and good luck.
