Council also directed NECO to release outstanding certificates
The directive is part of the recommendations adopted at the end of NCE’s 59th Annual Meeting in Abuja held from June 24 to June 28.
The meeting which was presided over by the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Rufa’i was held with the theme; “Strengthening the Institutional Management of Education for Quality Service Delivery”.
In a communiqué issued on Saturday, the highest decision making body for education in the country also directed NECO to ensure the release of certificates before the conduct of similar examinations.
The Council also directed the National Universities’ Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE), to ensure that all lecturers in tertiary institutions possess teaching qualifications in conformity with the provision of the National Policy on Education.
“NUC is also to sanction universities that charge above the approved Post-UTME fee of N2, 000,” according to the communiqué.
The NCE said it recognized the need for inclusive education in the Almajiri Education Program in order to cater for children with special needs.
It also urged “public examination bodies to emulate JAMB in allocating extra time to people with albinism in their examinations”.
It directed all states and the FCT to give due attention to special education by carrying out more sensitization and capacity-building programs for teachers on inclusive education.
The Council also directed all relevant regulatory agencies and institutions to recognize and accept Senior Arabic and Islamic School Certificate (SAISSC) for admission into tertiary institutions.
It noted with delight that NBTE had directed all polytechnics to give recognition to the certificates awarded to graduates of Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEI’s) for admission into National Diploma programs.
The Council accepted NBTE’s recommendation that holders of National Diploma from Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs) should be considered for admission into HND programs.
It said Federal Government, states and the FCT should appoint people with relevant educational qualifications/experience when constituting membership of boards/commissions of educational institutions and agencies.
