BROAD STREET AT NOON…A POEM BY KAYODE ODUMOSU

BROAD STREET AT NOON
A treeless Avenue
Of concrete structures and cemented stones
A scene of play
With limited sense and purpose
A sea of humanity and crawling cars
Of petty traders and jaundiced laissez-faire
Straggled with pickpockets and under-fed dogs
A road of beautiful women
Full of pride and vain glory
And of gentlemen astray from duty
And I, God-like on my observatory
Seven-storey high
Ponder on my misery and our follies
On this painfully crowded street
