Read the following passage to answer questions below
Delinquency describes actions that would not be crimes if performed by adults. lf a young person perform one of such actions then he has committed a crime. Delinquency is one of several status offenses, offenses that can be committed only by people in particular stations of life as determined by age profession or a person’s role in society. For young people such offenses include drinking, driving and smoking under age. Usually they are offenses only to the extent that they help to preserve some of the good things of life for the exclusive enjoyment of the adult world. Delinquency is therefore a weapon forged in adult minds and directed by adult hands against young people. lt is born out of envy, adult pride and intolerance. lf the world changed overnight and the responsibility to make and enforce laws fell or juvenile shoulders, the adults should expect a raw deal in return. Delinquency would then certainly refer only to many of the adult actions now freely committed by them.

11. ln the view of the writer, drinking under age is an offense because
A. adults want to have all the drink to themselves
B. Adults do not want juveniles to get drunk
C. Drunken juveniles can cause disorder in society
D. Adults have a duty to protect young persons.

12. l f the world changed overnight
A. There would be more delinquency laws.
B. Delinquency would refer to all adult actions.
C. Delinquency would be no more be a crime
D. Delinquency would also change in meaning

13. The writer of the passage believes delinquency laws are
A. not relevant to human society
B. only fit for young people
C. unfair to the juveniles
D. very fair to the adult world

14. Status offenses are those that can be committed by
A. all adults
B. juveniles only
C. delinquent juveniles only
D. specified classes of people.

15. When young people make and enforce laws
A. The responsibility will be too heavy on their shoulders
B. They would retaliate against the adults.
C. Their laws will be very juvenile
D. The world will be turned upside down.

We hereby draw your attention again to the following

4.HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR JAMB, POST UTME, WAEC/NECO COMPOSITE

Your Jamb score is allocated 50%, O level is 20% and post-ume is 30%.

JAMB

Maximum score under JAMB is 400.To prorate to 50% your Jamb score will be divided by 8 (400/50)

 WAEC/NECO

O level is calculated using the 5 core subjects(core to the course you wish to study as decided by the University) as follows

*A1-6points
*B2-5
*B3-4
*C4-3
*C5-2
*C6-1

Maximum is 30 p0ints The total points is then prorated to 20 through multiplication by 2/3.

POST-UTME

Here is the score many candidates seem to find  rather confusing. Some complain of having a higher score in the POST-UTME than university cut-off points without being admitted. What they must understand is that even if they score 100% in that exam it amounts only to 30% of the cut-off point. So their Post -Utme score is  usually prorated to 30 marks using 0.3 as the multiplier

Example: a candidate had 202 in Jamb and his O level goes thus. Maths-B3, Chemistry-C4, Biology- B2, English-C5, Physics-C6, Economic-B3, Geography-A1 and had 58% in the post utme.

To calculate his composite, this is how it’s done.

Jamb score divided by 8 i.e 202/8=25.25

For the O level, only 5 subjects (math, english, chemistry, biology, and physics) are needed. There he has Math-B3-4points,English-C5-2point,Chemistry-C4-3points,Biology-B2-5points, Physics-C6-1point

Total gross points for O level= 4+2+3+5+1=15. This score is then multiplied by 2/3 i.e 15 x 2/3=10.

His post utme score is allocated 30% and is multiplied by 0.3. i.e 58 x 0.3=17.4

Therefore, the candidates’ composite is the sum of these 3 scores i.e Jamb+O’level+post utme. That is 25.25+10+17.4=5 2.65 Hence, the candidate’s composite is 52.65.

Now note the 5-point gap between the composite total and what he scored in the post-utme.That 5-point gap may result in not being granted admission! Okay?

NOTE: 100% above may be equivalent to 100,200 or 400 marks in different universities

Good luck again.

Okay?

Good luck

WHY DO MANY NIGERIAN STUDENTS STILL FAIL JAMB?HERE ARE THE REASONS!

1. NON-PREPARATION

By making arrangements with exam hall crocodiles or examination magicians

By fearing JAMB after taking it on 2 or 3 occasions.

By believing that the safety net is to go abroad.

…group discussion on JAMB or just waiting for food?…

 2. INADEQUATE PREPARATION

By registering at a tutorial college without  any fixed objective

By non-organization of  their studies.

By adopting an attitude of ‘’I don’t care’ to lectures and mock exams.

By relaxing after passing one mock test.

By getting discouraged as a result of one mock test.

By not associating with ambitious students.

By not being proactive towards one‘s progress. You do this by not telling yourself to take charge of your studies. And by not setting goals  or by not making  any effort to achieve those set…

3. MENTAl GAME FAILURE AT EXAM CENTER  LEADING TO WRONG ANSWERS

Getting late to the exam hall, or not bothering to know the exact location of the exam hall  before the date of the exam.

By looking at the faces of other students before the exam and becoming jelly –like thinking  they are likely to be better than you or that they are probably better prepared than you.

By failing to be a battle tank in the exam hall. To be a battle tank in the exam hall, pray ,concentrate ,get smart on techniques ,get even smarter by not tackling harder subjects  like maths first or physics.

4 BY SUCCUMBING TO THE USUAL PROBLEM OF UNBELIEF COMMON AMONG LAZY STUDENTS

Students are not always ready to let go of old study methods they are used to.Even where they are taught new techniques or method they still prefer to use their own ways which had failed them many times

The problem is not because they do not understand the new methods but because moving over to new methods involve yielding like a Christian on the basis of faith –something whose effect might not be immediately seen.

It is also because they still need to build up their confidence or faith  by regular practice which is also challenge on its own especially to the very lazy ones

Again not every listener in the church believes or is carried along by the pastor. Some don’t even understand what the pastor is saying. they hear about the heaven all the time but it continues to hold  only REMOTE possibilities for them. They are still hesitant about taking the step or leap of faith or making a commitment to new ways

But what students need do is to learn how not to attempt taking giant leaps but little steps of progress one after the other. These steps are recognizable by the following acts.

(a)     Planning an examination  study timetable

(b)    Writing Red Notes or revision notes.

(c)      Putting the three techniques of JAMB by EDUPEDIA into action.

group academic programs which were common in mason college are essential for jamb studies…

But what exactly do EDUPEDIA techniques or jamb write –up say?

(a). Jamb question can be divided into  EASY, HARD and POSSIBLE questions. Students are to remember, however, that what is hard for them  may not be so for  others.

(b). Jamb answers can be divided  into BEST ANSWER , PARTLY  CORRECT  ANSWER .PARTLY WRONG ANSWER and TOTALLY WRONG ANSWER. But Jamb is interested in  the BEST ANSWERS ONLY! Unfortunately many students get deceived/distracted by partly correct answers(same as partly wrong answers)

To get the best answers, use

Operation sweep method for EASY QUESTIONS

Ogbunigwe method for POSSIBLE QUESTIONS and

Bafana Bafana method for HARD QUESTIONS

Unfortunately 2 factors work against student in the exam hall. These are KNOWLEDGE AND TIME.

Our solutions for both problem are as follows;

For Knowledge ,use the following named techniques under HOW TO STUDY i.e Recall and Revision Methods(Red Notes, Timetable, Q/As)…  all to be explained through write-ups in future…

For Time student need to master the 3 techniques listed under “best answers” above.

NOTE…standby for more on HOW TO PASS JAMB!….Good luck…
